Over time I've built up a collection of art related websites...

I shall split them into two sections. Sites that you can have creative fun with online and sites that provide free software that you may find useful. I post links to the useful sites I find on my Tumblr blog.

Tools to create with...                and free software

Aviary have lots of online creative tools available and is well worth a look.

There are loads of things to play with at Big Huge Labs, this link is to the 'Hockneyizer' make a photo montage like David Hockney.

Have your chosen image given a 'Warhol' look

    Photofunia.

    Make your own Flickr widget.

Turn your photo into digital artwork with one click...

Pixlr is another online photo editing tool.

Another online editing tool, called FotoFlexer.

Yet another online editing tool, this one is Picnik.

Make a shape collage with your photographs.

Create your own online graphic novel & read other peoples work. Neil Gaiman included...

Paint with sand... It's not just an empty screen! Click on the square in the top left corner for instructions.

Make searching for images easier with Ginipic.

If you just want to resize and image, to make it smaller for Twitter for example, Pixresizer is a small and easy to use programme.

Image Tuner is a batch resiszer, renamer and converter.

'Gimp' is very similar to 'Photoshop', I've not used it yet, but I've been told a number of times that it's worth a look.

'IrfanView' is a popular image viewer.

The latest version of Picasa takes a lot of beating for photo organising and basic editing. It even has facial recognition.

    Web album generator.

Image & photo editing with Paint.NET

Open source image editor, which I think is similar to GIMP.

Twisted Brush digital painting & editing.

Tux Paint is open source painting software for children.

If you use Open Office, here's where to get clip art.

    Templates for PowerPoint.

Serif offers free versions of a whole range of their software, they're the older versions but still worth a look...

    Favourites...

    • This great site lets you paint like Jackson Pollock. They have an iPhone app too that is excellent.
    • 'Think draw' lets you drag and drop and resize to your hearts content to make all kinds of weird and wonderful images.
    • Have a favourite phrase or poem you'd like to display in a different way? How about making a word cloud with it? (You'll need to be able to make a screen grab to save this.)
